BOB LEONARD

Climate Foresight Advisor

A decade ago I realized that climate change is the largest global crisis humanity has ever encountered. Having two children who will spend the rest of their lives dealing with it, I decided to learn everything I could. When I grasped just how dire our situation is, I shifted my career to focus on climate.

In 2016, I joined This Spaceship Earth, a climate-related nonprofit founded by the futurist, David Houle. David and I wrote a book about the root causes of our climate crisis, and what needs to be done to address those causes, Moving to a Finite Earth Economy.

Over that time, I learned how wickedly complex and interconnected our climate is. Our climate crisis is unprecedented. Specific impacts at specific times are impossible to predict. What is predictable are the climate impacts to specific organizations. The timing cannot be pinpointed, but by using Strategic Foresight, the what and where can be forecast with a degree of certainty.

So I earned certifications in Strategic Foresight and Scenario Planning from The Futures School, Climate Risk Management from Harvard Professor Bob Pojasek, Ph.D. at the Center for Corporate Performance & Sustainability, and in Leadership and Strategy in the Age of Disruption from Harvard Professor Mark Esposito, Ph.D. at the IE University of Exponential Learning in Madrid.

I offer a Climate Planning service to help mid-sized businesses prepare for the specific climate impacts they are vulnerable to, and to find climate-related business opportunities. Each business has intellectual property, inhouse skills, products and services that may be repurposed or built upon to deliver climate solutions.
